The readme file ( ) says "This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Photoshop CS5, Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9." Is it compatible with Photoshop Elements 9? Adobe's haphazard documentation is confusing on that point. It's a bit petty to deny Elements 9 users those profiles, I think, but I don't know why I expected better. I didn't buy a new camera, but I did hope to try the new profiles for the D300S (since I presume D300S is what Adobe meant by "D3000s" in their readme file). Therefore, Adobe's statement, "This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Photoshop CS5, Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9" is a lie, plainly speaking.

I downloaded it and attempted to install it, only to receive an error message along the lines of, "this update is not applicable". To answer my own question, Camera Raw 6.6 is NOT compatible with Photoshop Elements 9, at least on the Mac platform. I don't need another reply, equally untrustworthy, from the customer service people whose unenviable job it is to get us lowly Elements users up to speed. I got three conflicting replies, as I noted. In a way, I did ask Adobe, by trawling their website. Finally cleanup the install files.Īll in all this is a lot of time spent updating the software to add a few camera models or fix a few bugs. Then I have to delete the old directory because it is always left behind. When the new point release is installed, I then have to delete my old shortcuts and create new ones since the installer also changes the install directory (Why?!).

Then I have to go through multiple steps to extract the files to my desktop and then launch the full installer as if I had just purchased the software. With Lightroom on the other hand, I have to download a massive executable containing an entire release of the product for two different platforms (32 and 64bit). Why can't Adobe get its thing together and provide a better update process for Lightroom? I have Adobe Photoshop installed and the ACR 6.6 update was automatically detected and with a one or two clicks of the mouse installed in under a minute with only changes to ACR itself downloaded and installed.
